Family Members Found through Genealogy Research
You can get really excited when meeting family members for the first time; however, it is not always a happy ending. Some will question your intentions and others will only keep in contact if you do all the work. Sometimes you are real lucky and they want to have a relationship with you too.
Mac My maternal grandmother told me that her aunt Vera had two children: Mac and Dolly. I researched Mac, found him outside Houston, and wrote him in March 2002. I went and met him later that year. Mac married Helen and had three kids: Sandra, Jared, and Gail. Mac served in the military and was in the construction brigade. We stayed in contact until he returned to having a relationship with my uncle/adopted father, Max. I have not spoken to Max since 1986 and I put a stipulation on Mac and my relationship -> it would end if he resumed a relationship with Max. Mac told me he had been in contact again with Max again, so I had to sever ties with Mac.
Phyllis I started looking for dad's family and found his half-sister, Phyllis. I wanted to see people who looked like me. I got to meet Phyllis and her sons. Recently we reconnected and stay in contact through e-mail.
Lisa I found out I had 3 half-sisters and one half-brother when I received dad's obituary. I located my younger siblings' mother and wrote her. We spoke on the phone about dad and I never heard back from my siblings. My half-sister, Lisa, wrote me in October 2005 and I did not received the letter since it was mailed to an old address. The letter was not returned to Lisa, so she was crushed thinking I did not respond. Lisa emailed me through reunion.com on October 26, 2006. I quickly posted a picture of dad and she wrote me back that I was definitely her sister. This came at a bittersweet time in my life. I had quit a job that was wearing me out with 80 hour work weeks with more and more work being dumped on me. I lost significant wages, but gained time, health, and sleep.

November 28, 2006 I drove to Lisa's town and had lunch with her and her husband, Brandon. I spent a few hours with Lisa at her work. Lisa invited me to their holiday dinner, which was December 9, 2006. It was nice to spend time with Brandon and Lisa and meet their coworkers. I heard many times how much Lisa and I had in common including our mannerisms. I spent the night at Lisa's and got to meet her kids.

Actually Lisa coming into my life has been a blessing and was needed. It is amazing how much we resemble each other and have in common. I am the talker and she is not. We keep in touch on a regular basis.

Rhonda My oldest half-sister, Rhonda Dale, contacted me through my website Sunday, July 8, 2007. I have dialup right now, so I only check that account once per week. I was so excited that she had found me. I had been looking for her since 2002. She was nothing like I had been told by an aunt and for that I was very grateful. We talked over 3 hours and caught up a bit. I can’t wait to meet her. Until then, we keep in contact via e-mail.

I support my living relatives' right to privacy!
